Piaras Ferriter

Piaras is the eldest of six in the family of Morgan and Teresa Ferriter. 

Morgan was a native of TÏr a' Bh‡in, Baile an FheiritËirigh. He in turn was a son of Muiris and Nell Ferriter. 

Piaras's mother, Teresa  Drew, came from Baltray, Co. Louth. Morgan and Teresa settled in Co. Donegal following Morgan's transfer there as a policeman. Pierce is married to Angela Cleary, who is a native of Convoy,  Co. Donegal. They have four son... Morgan, Enda, Eoin and Colm.

Piaras was educated at Dunfanaghy National School, Co. Donegal. He got a scholarship to  Colaiste »inde, Galway and after completing his secondary education there, he was called to St. Patrick's Training College, Dublin, where he trained as a primary teacher.  He was educated largely  through the medium of the Irish language.

He taught in  two different schools in County Kildare  for over fifteen years before  returning to his native Donegal to take up the position of Principal  in Laghey National School, Donegal Town. He taught there for over  twenty five years until  his  retirement in 1998. He still resides in the village of Laghey where he is active in the community.

His main interests are music, languages and golf. He has just completed a degree course in Gaelic Literature as a distance learner with the University of the Highlands and the Islands, Scotland.
